Avery Parrish

1917 - 1959

Avery Parrish
Originaire de l'Alabama, il joue dans l'orchestre de l'université alors dirigé par Erskine Hawkins. Sa collaboration avec l'orchestre en tant que pianiste, compositeur et arrangeur sera fructueuse. En 1940 l'orchestre enregistre sa composition After Hours qui devient rapidement un blues incontournable, puis un standard de jazz.

A la suite d'une bagarre dans un bar il est grièvement blessé à la tête et ne pourra plus jamais jouer de musique à partir de ce moment là. Il meurt dans l'oubli en 1959.
