Dick Wellstood
1927 - 1987
Originaire du Connecticut, Dick Wellstood s'initie en autodidacte au ragtime, stride piano et boogie woogie. Durant sa carrière, il accompagne des grands noms du jazz tels que Bob Wilbur, Sidney Bechet, Red Allen ou Roy Eldrige. Il reste fortement associé au stride piano, style dont il fut l'un des grands spécialistes après la seconde guerre mondiale, aux côtés de Dick Hyman, Ralph Sutton et Don Ewell. Avec un jeu tantôt incisif, tantôt nuancé, il avait une approche très personnelle dans l'interpretation des standards.
